Last December 22, we were lucky enough to enjoy a guided tour of the Carrie Mae Weems exhibits. A great turn within the possible and KBr Flama 22. Young talents from photography schools at MAPFRE’s KBr center.

Carrie Mae Weems. La vora del temps – Antiga Roma

Multidisciplinary artist, Carrie Mae Weems is best known for the photographic work she has been developing for nearly forty years. This exhibition chronologically reviews all of his work and aims to underline the way in which Weems approaches photography as ahead of its time and always projects his images into the future with a sense of tireless hope. From the first photographs, focusing on family and friends, he gradually develops a broader vision that questions history and stereotypes while also questioning those who exercise power over those who cannot defend themselves. Weems’ works speak of violence that is exercised deliberately, but at the same time leaves room for scenes of intimacy and love.

Guillermo Fernández. Serie The Holy Innocents, 2019

On the other hand, the KBr Flama project aims to give visibility annually to the youngest talent emerging from photography schools in Barcelona. For this, the KBr has the essential complicity of Grisart, Idep Barcelona, IEFC and Elisava, Faculty of Design and Engineering of Barcelona, four academic entities committed to teaching and photography studies. The exhibition KBr Flama 22 is the second edition of this project and presents the works of Nanouch Congost (Girona, 1999), Guillermo Fernández (Granada, 1991), Jordi Miquel Riera (Girona, 1977) and Sílvia Parés (Vic, 1997 ). Their projects were selected through a rigorous viewing process, in which Horaci Fernández, Carles Guerra, Joana Hurtado and Arianna Rinaldo participated as jurors.
